Voices of Hope September 2007 Newsletter Dear FriendsWe hope you all had a good summer. This August three Maasai women graduated from beauty school. Nancy Southam, a cosponsor to one of our graduates organized for a garage sale, which raised enough money to open a beauty shop for these three women. These women are now doing their internship, which includes customer service, finance management and budgeting. This process will prepare them to be ready to manage their own Salon in January of 2008. Sarah Naeku completed her diploma at Kenya Medical College where she studied Health Information System. She will join the same college and study Epidemiology or Public Health. Three of our Maasai women who were taking a diploma course in Community Development will graduate in April of 2008. After graduation, these women will work as developers and change agents at grassroots of the Maasai Community. This December I will be traveling to Kenya to assess both the academic progress of our students and hold a two-day seminar to assess the Voice of Hope study program and volunteer work these women have been doing within their community. During my visit I will assist these women who have graduated from beauty school to purchase equipment needed to open a Beauty Shop in January 2008. I also plan to work on Voices of Hope property documents before we began the process to build our safe house and other plans we have for the property. During this trip with the assistance of Voices of Hope Kenya board, we will select six more Maasai women who will join college in September 2008. These six women will take a place of the six who are graduating. I am in the process of raising funds for this December.
