Servant Led Communities

“A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves.” Lau Tzu, 6th Century BC

We partner with communities around the globe to create a more just society…one where people are healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous and more likely to serve others. As Robert Greenleaf put it “All that is needed to rebuild community as a viable life form for large numbers of people is for enough servant-leaders to show the way, not by mass movements, but by each servant-leader demonstrating his own unlimited liability for a quite specific community-related group.

Here at the Center for Sharing, we have made the development of servant leaders and the communities they serve our primary focus. We believe that at the heart of every project or program that helps create a more just society is a group of servant leaders working to further the common good. We also believe that each community often has someone within it with the gifts and the calling to meet the needs of that community, and if we empower those leaders, we could solve many of the world’s most difficult problems.

The current programs of the Center for Sharing in Mexico, Kenya, Philippines and the United States have been born out of Servant Leadership courses, with the Center for Sharing helping participants hear God’s call on their lives to serve others both in for-profit and non-profit entities. We then walk alongside these leaders in their journey to reach out to a marginalized group of people, often in their own community.

The following are communities where the Center for Sharing is currently working to build Servant Leadership in grassroots community:

  • Pasco, Yakima and Moses Lake,  Washington
  • Nairobi, Malindi and Kisumu, Kenya
  • Mindoro Island, Philippines
  • Juchitán, Mexico
  • Cairo, Egypt

Past communities were we have worked include:

  • Walla Walla. Spokane and Seattle, Washington
  • Portland and Salem, Oregon
  • San Diego, California
  • Tijuana and Mexicali, Mexico
  • Hyderabad, India
